# Can my automatic upsell discount (powered by Functions) be combined with other discounts?


### Overview

In Shopify, the ability to combine discounts depends on the types of discounts applied. Understanding how different discounts interact is crucial for effective promotion management. 

###### Combining Different Types of Discounts
Shopify allows the combination of discounts if they are of different types. For example:
* **Manual Amount Off Order Discount**: A discount code entered by the shopper at checkout that applies a fixed amount off the entire order.
* **Automatic Line Item Discount**: A discount automatically applied to a specific product or line item in the cart.
