# How can I set up PayPal as a payment method for Post-Purchase offers?


### Overview
Integrating PayPal as a payment option for post-purchase offers enhances customer convenience and can boost your store's average order value. To enable PayPal for post-purchase transactions in Shopify, specific configurations are necessary to ensure seamless functionality.

We can enable customers to see post-purchase offers by enabling PayPal Express Checkout and PayPal Automatic payments.

| You'll need to have Automated Payments enabled within your Shopify <> PayPal settings.

###### Step-by-Step Guide

1. **Select UpsellPlus as Your Post-Purchase App**
* Log in to your Shopify Admin panel.
* Navigate to **Settings** > **Checkout**.
* Scroll to the **Post-purchase page** section.
* Choose **UpsellPlus** from the list of available apps.
* Click **Save** to confirm your selection.

2. **Enable Automatic Payments in PayPal Settings**
* In your Shopify Admin, go to **Settings** > **Payments**.
* Under the **PayPal** section, click **Manage**.
* Ensure that **PayPal Express Checkout** is set up, along with **PayPal Automatic Payments**.
* If the above is not set up, connect your account and Shopify which will automatically request approval from PayPal for **Reference Transactions**.
* Monitor the status; it will display as 'Pending' initially and change to 'Approved' once authorized.

3. **Activate Post-Purchase Offers in UpsellPlus**
* Open the **UpsellPlus** app within your Shopify Admin.
* Create and customize your post-purchase offers as desired.
* Ensure these offers are active and properly configured to be presented to customers after checkout.

###### Limitations and Considerations

* **Single Post-Purchase Charge**: PayPal permits only one post-purchase charge per transaction. If a customer accepts the first post-purchase offer, subsequent offers will not be displayed. However, if the first offer is declined, a second offer (if configured) can be presented.
* **Compatibility with PayFlow Pro**: There is no change to the current PayPal PayFlow Pro functionality if using a credit card. However, **PayPal Express** cannot be used in conjunction with **PayPal PayFlow Pro**.
* **Reference Transactions Approval**: The ability to process post-purchase offers relies on PayPal's approval of Reference Transactions. Ensure this feature is enabled to facilitate automatic customer charges for accepted offers.
