# How to create bundle deals and upsell them (threshold, tiered and cheapest free)

**A bundle is a reusable deal on a group of products**, such as "buy any 5 from Newborn, get 15% off" or "buy 3, get the cheapest free". You build the bundle once under **Bundles**, then promote it with an offer. The discount only goes live at checkout while an enabled offer promotes the bundle.

- **Where:** **Bundles** in the UpsellPlus menu → **Create bundle**
- **Products:** hand-picked products, or a whole collection (stays in sync as the collection changes)
- **Deal types:** **Threshold**, **Tiered**, **Cheapest Item Free**

## Create a bundle

1. Go to **Bundles → Create bundle**.
2. Enter a **Name**, and optionally a **Discount label** shown as the discount title at checkout.
3. Under **Which products are in this bundle?**, choose:
   - **Selected products**: hand-pick the products that count toward the deal
   - **A collection**: every product in the collection counts, including products added later
4. Choose a **Deal strategy**:

   | Strategy | How it works | Example |
   |---|---|---|
   | **Threshold** | A discount when the shopper buys a minimum number of bundle products | Buy 5 or more, get 15% off |
   | **Tiered** | Bigger discounts as they add more | 2 items → 10%, 3 items → 15%, 5 items → 20% |
   | **Cheapest Item Free** | Buy N products, the cheapest is free | Buy 3, cheapest free |

   Discounts can be a percentage or a fixed amount. The minimum quantity is at least 2, and tier quantities must increase.
5. Under **Which items get the discount?**, choose **Discount all bundle items in the cart** or **Only discount items added through the offer**.
6. Under **Which purchase types count toward the deal?**, choose **Any purchase type**, **Subscription items only** or **One-time purchases only**.
7. Check the **Deal summary** and **Discount preview**, then **Save bundle**.

## Promote the bundle with an offer

A saved bundle stays **Inactive** until an offer promotes it:

1. Click **Create offer** on the bundle (or go to **Offers → Create Offer**).
2. On the **Offers** tab, under **How should products be selected?**, choose **From a Bundle** and select your bundle.
3. Choose a placement and save.

The **Bundles** list shows which offer promotes each bundle (**Promoted by**) and whether it's **Live**.

## Good to know

- **Subscription bundles:** products without a selling plan are excluded. The discount applies at checkout, so it affects the first order only; recurring orders use the selling plan's price.
- **"Only discount items added through the offer"** only works with an offer promoting the bundle.
- **Shopify Bundles app products** can still be upsold as a normal product with **Specific Products**.

## FAQ

**Why isn't my bundle discount applying?**
Check that an **enabled** offer promotes the bundle. Bundles without an enabled offer are saved but inactive.

**Can a bundle use a whole collection?**
Yes. Choose **A collection**; products added to the collection later count automatically.

**Can I offer a "buy X, get a free gift" deal?**
Yes. Use a **Free Gift** offer with a **Cart Product Quantity** targeting rule, for example 5 or more items from a collection.
