# How to make a variant selection required on checkout upsells


### Overview

If your upsell products have multiple variants (e.g., size, color), requiring customers to select a variant ensures they get the right product before checkout. UpsellPlus allows you to enforce this selection in the checkout process.

###### Step-by-Step Guide

Simply tick the option that says **Require a selection** when you use the __manual__ upselling method on your checkout upsells (shown below).

**Note**: The placeholder's name (size, color, etc.) will depend on the first variant/option name from your product's admin.

For the screenshots below, you'll see that the placeholder says ''Size'' because that's the first option on the product admin:
