# How to upsell shoppers to free shipping or the next reward tier (Get to the next reward)

**Get to the next reward recommends the product that gets a shopper over your next threshold.** It reads how far the cart is from the next tier of your rewards program (for example free shipping at $75, a free gift at $120) and suggests a product priced to close that gap, preferring best sellers. When the cart crosses a tier, the offer moves to the next one, and it disappears once the top reward is unlocked.

- **Where:** Offers → Create Offer → **Offers** tab → **Automatic** → **Get to the next reward**
- **Requires:** a Rewards program that tracks cart subtotal (**Rewards** in the app menu)

## Before you start: create a Rewards program

This offer follows the tiers of a rewards program. If you don't have one:

1. Go to **Rewards** in the UpsellPlus menu and create a program that tracks **cart subtotal**.
2. Add your tiers, for example *Free shipping* at $75 and *Free gift* at $120.

The Get to the next reward offer only recommends products. The rewards themselves (free shipping, gifts, discounts) are still given by your rewards program, gift offers and discounts.

## Set up the offer

1. Go to **Offers → Create Offer** and choose a placement (for example **Cart Drawer** or **Checkout**).
2. On the **Offers** tab, under **How should products be selected?**, choose **Automatic**, then **Get to the next reward**.
3. Pick your **Rewards program**. The offer uses its tiers and reward names.
4. Choose **When to show**:
   - **Close to a reward**: in the last 30% before each reward
   - **Halfway there**: in the last 50% before each reward
   - **Always**: from the first item until the top reward is unlocked
5. Choose the **Suggested product price**:
   - **Just enough**: up to 25% more than the amount left to spend
   - **A little extra**: up to 50% more than the amount left
   - **Up to double**: up to twice the amount left
   - **Custom**: your own percentage

   The editor shows an example, such as: cart $55, $20 to go → suggests products from $20 to $25.
6. Optional: narrow results with filters (collections, tags, product types).
7. Edit the message. The default is *Only {amount_remaining} away from {next_reward}*. Available tokens: `{product_name}`, `{amount_remaining}`, `{next_reward}`.
8. Save.

## Example

Your program gives free shipping at $75 and a free gift at $120. With **Close to a reward** and **Just enough**:

- Cart at $40: no offer yet (more than 30% away from $75).
- Cart at $60: "Only $15 away from Free shipping", with a product priced $15 to about $19.
- Cart at $80: the offer moves to the next tier when it's within 30% of $120.
- Cart at $125: all rewards unlocked, so the offer is hidden.

## FAQ

**Does this offer give the free shipping itself?**
No. It only recommends products. Free shipping and other rewards come from your Rewards program and discounts.

**Does it work in every currency?**
It only shows to shoppers paying in your store's main currency.

**What happens after the top reward is unlocked?**
The offer is hidden, so the next offer in priority can show.

**Which products does it suggest?**
Products priced within your Suggested product price range, preferring best sellers. Use filters to include or exclude collections, tags or product types.
