Step-by-Step Guide

Log in to Shopify Admin
Open the UpsellPlus App

Go to Apps in the lefthand menu
Click UpsellPlus from the list of installed apps

Create a checkout offer

Click Create offer > Checkout

|| Note: upselling to subscriptions in checkout is only available for Shopify Plus merchants. All merchants can use the upselling to subscriptions in cart or post-purchase.

Add a product with a selling plan

Choose a product in the resource picker that has at least one selling plan in your subscription app

Tick Add as a subscription

This will show you all the available selling plans for the selected product

Overview

UpsellPlus offers two primary methods to apply discounts to upsell products: Shopify Functions and Shopify Scripts. By default, the app utilizes Shopify Functions, allowing you to simply enter a discount value when creating an upsell offer. When the upsell item is added to the cart, the specified discount is automatically applied.

To add a discount to upsells, you can just add in the amount or percentage you want to discount. When the item gets added to cart, the discount will be applied to the upsell.

You can use the latest Shopify Functions or use the legacy Shopify Scripts to apply this discount. By default, the app will use Shopify Functions. This makes it as easy as just entering a discount value and saving the offer.

If you want to set up the discounts using a script, you'll need the Shopify Scripts app. It is free and can be installed here.

Step-by-Step Guide

To enable A/B testing, go to the UpsellPlus app. Create an offer, choose ‘Checkout’‍

Log in to Shopify Admin
Open the UpsellPlus App

Go to Apps in the lefthand menu
Click UpsellPlus from the list of installed apps

Create an Upsell Offer

Click Create Offer and configure the first upsell (Version A).
Choose the product and customize the offer details.

Enable A/B Testing

After adding your product and customizations, click Add an A/B Version
This will duplicate the offer as Version B

The app will copy your current offer and create a B version. You can toggle between the two versions with the tabs at the bottom. ‍

Here’s an example of a simple A/B test setup that will test the callout banner that introduces the upsell offers in checkout: ‘Frequently bought together’ vs ‘73% of customers also bought’‍‍

Once you publish the offer to your checkout, 50% of shoppers will see version A and 50% of shoppers will see version B. ‍You can also see the impressions, conversion and revenue for each version.

Log in to Shopify Admin
Open the UpsellPlus App

Click UpsellPlus from the list of installed apps

Create a New Upsell Offer * *

Click Create Offer and select Checkout Page
The product you set up will be added automatically to the cart once the shoppers navigates to the checkout.

Scroll down to the Smart Rule section

Tick the Automatically add to cart when conditions are met checkbox

Make the product free

To make it free, we will set the discount price at 100%
