Does an accepted Post-Purchase Offer create a new order in Shopify?
Overview
In Shopify, when a customer accepts a post-purchase upsell offer, the additional product is added to the original order, rather than creating a new order. This integration ensures a seamless fulfillment process and accurate order management.
A Shopify store’s anatomy looks like this:
Landing Page > Product Page (PDP) > Cart > Checkout > Post-Purchase (optional) > Thank You page
When you have post-purchase offers set up, a customer can add to their initial purchase with an upsell that appears on a page after they’ve checked out.
But how does this work in your Shopify backend? Does it create two offers? What about fulfillment?

How It Works
Customer Completes Initial Purchase: After finalizing their initial order, the customer is presented with a post-purchase upsell offer.
Customer Accepts Upsell Offer: If the customer accepts the offer, the upsell product is added to their existing order.
Payment Processing: The customer's payment method is charged a second time for the total amount of the upsell product.
Order Update: The original order is updated to include the upsell product, and this modification is reflected in the order history.

Benefits of This Approach
The Shopify checkout can be modified by apps using checkout extensions. The post-purchase page is such an extension.
Streamlined Fulfillment: By consolidating the upsell product into the original order, the fulfillment process remains efficient, avoiding the complexities of managing multiple orders for a single customer transaction.
Accurate Order Tracking: All items purchased, including upsells, are tracked under a single order number, simplifying inventory management and customer service inquiries.
This is all integrated and built into the UpsellPlus app and allows you to create a customized post-purchase page that fits your store and products.
