Selling Subscriptions on the Post Purchase page: limitations
Overview
Offering subscriptions as post-purchase upsells can enhance customer retention and generate recurring revenue. However, Shopify imposes specific limitations on post-purchase subscription offers to ensure a seamless and secure shopping experience.
Key Limitations
- Existing Subscription Orders
Post-purchase subscription offers cannot be added to orders that already contain subscription products. If a customer's initial purchase includes a subscription, only one-time products can be offered post-purchase.
- Modification Restrictions
It's not possible to modify or add a subscription to an order with an existing subscription through post-purchase offers. Additionally, converting a one-time purchase into a subscription order post-purchase is not permitted.
- Payment Method Constraints
Certain payment methods, such as installment services or digital wallets (e.g., Klarna, Affirm, Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, Google Pay), do not support post-purchase offers, including subscriptions.
- Order Characteristics
Orders without a shipping address or those designated for local delivery are ineligible for post-purchase subscription offers. This includes digital products or local pickup orders.
More on post purchase limitations can be found in Shopify's Documentation.
